Sezione Ultra'

This is one of the most important fan groups of our team. Sure it is the most known and this is also because of its number of members. Sezione Ultra' was founded in 1998 and was initially the name of the whole group of fans of Universitatea Craiova. Its first founders were Ionut Chelu and Ionut Coanda (aka Charlie). In that time the trainer of Universitatea Craiova was Ilie Balaci, a legendary name for this team. Unfortunately Ilie Balaci have given up to lead Universitatea Craiova and in the same time Ionut Chelu made the same thing as a solidarity gesture with him.

Sezione Ultra' resisted in time and Charlie became its leader.
In the year 2000 this group of fans was reorganised as an ultras group, following the model of Italian ultras groups, and Corny came to lead it toghether with Charlie. In mean time another fan organizations were formed, and Sezione Ultra' took the role of leader group in the South side of "Ion Oblemenco" Stadium called "Peluza Sud". Other important fan groups were: FREAK BOYS,BLUE LIONS or TESTE MATTE.
In the year 2001 Sezione Ultra' had an important role for the chaseing of Gigi Netoiu (the former boss of Universitatea Craiova). The unity of this group was the key point and the target of this group was finally touched when this character full of shame left Craiova for good.
Today Sezione Ultra has an important number of members and it is a mature ultras group which independetly exists and has an important support for our team.

Cristi Neamtu

He was born on August 22nd 1980 in Craiova. He started to play football in Craiova. When he was 18 years old he was called to defend the goal of Universitatea Craiova. In the last match of the season 1998-1999 he debuted for this legendary football team. Our team lost that game with 0-1 but Cristi's evolution was very apreciated by his trainer (Marian Bondrea) and by Romanian mass-media. He learned about football from his older colleagues: Tibi Lung and Florin Prunea, and he was allways prepared to substitute them in the goal of the team from Craiova. In 1999-2000 Cristi Neamtu played another game for Universitatea Craiova against Rapid Bucharest. This time was a match on the field of the oponent team. For a time he was transfered at Electroputere Craiova and Rocar Bucharest. After this short voyage he came back at Universitatea Craiova and plyed for this team in UEFA Intertot Cup. He played in double games against FC Bilys Balshi (Albania) and FC Synot Stare Mesto (Czech Republic). After these games he was transfered at Rocar Bucharest for a half of season and from the winter of 2003 hw came back at Universitatea Craiova. For this time his colleagues were Tudor and Preda. The team was in Cyprus for a preparation of the next season and there, at a training sesion, this young and full of tallent goalkeeper was deadly accidented from one of the players of Universitatea Craiova: Marius Suleap. His nick name was "Schmeichel from Craiova" because of his obviuos similitude with the well known Danish goalkeeper of Manchester United.

All the fans of Universitatea Craiova were in black for these days full of pain. About 30,000 people were at Cristi Neamtu funerals. He remained in the memory of the city and the part of the stadium where take places the most fanatic suporters of Universitatea Craiova is called "Peluza Sud Cristi Neamtu". This name was very easy addopted because he was one of the fans of this team and one of the most used sentences you can hear in this stadium at a football game are: "Cristi Neamtu was one of us!"

I Love This Game

Universitatea Craiova, as a new first league team, took part yesterday at a charity game. The members of this Romanian football team played a basketball game and a football one to help the fund rising for helping the children with disabilities.
This two games were called "We play for those who are like us"and was made yesterday at the Hall Of Sports from Craiova. This was not the first charity game for Universitatea Craiova because this club organized a similiar rising of funds at the match against Astra Ploiesti from the second league of Romanian Football Championship. In that time the gathered money was given to the people who had to defeat the waters of Danube which covered an important part of Oltenia region in this spring.

Even we are all happy now, because Universitatea Craiova succeded in its try to come back in the spot lights of Romanian Football, the members of this important club doesn't forget to help people in need. Because these people have rarely the chance to be happy our football team brought to them yesterday a little smile.

His last day on the field
The former striker of Universitatea Craiova played his last game on the stadium "Alfonso Coliseum Perez" in "Primera Division". This was the match Getafe - Cadiz 3-1. He substituted Gavilan in the 68th minute of this game from the 37th day of Spanish first league Championship. The audience was about 12,000 viewers who applauded his evolution. In the same day, other 2 important football players retired: Gigi Carbone (Valencia CF) on "Mestalla" stadium and Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid) on "Santiago Bernabeu".

"May be I will get my trainer licence, but I don't think my soul will permite me to be a good one. I had offers from Craiova to come back and play again to make a big team there, but I will not return and I will not play football again", said Craioveanu.

The well known Spanish sport newspaper, "As", wrote: "With Gica it is closing an old age. More than 20 years of football were closed on the arms of his colleagues and in the applause of the audience. The football is over for a man who was noticed because of his great popularity and who says he will be very happy after this retirement while he doesn't miss his friends and his glass of wine. Good life philosophy.

Before Gica Craioveanu nobody knew Getafe football club, nowadays we all know where it is. He was an idol an he will leave a spot hard to fill in the field and on the Getafe's changing room. By Craioveanu retirement it is closed the most glorious age of this football club, even this may not became already".

"I was never disapointed because Benfica Lisboa stopped us in the road to the UEFA Cup final match. At the end of that game in the locker room all the players were upset. I went there and I said: I curse you, Universitatea Craiova, to be stoped every year in the semifinals of an European Cup", Corneliu Stroe.

Nourdays, this former boss of the great team of Universitatea Craiova told us: "Mircea Radulescu had the entire responsability for the broke up of Craiova Maxima. In 1984 when he was called as a trainer of this team he let very easy to go players like Balaci, Crisan, Tilihoi, Donose, Stefanescu, Camataru. I can not stopped these transfers because they were made with the Communist Party cheef, Gheorghe Stoica, approval. Radulescu and Stoica were very good friends. Radulescu was a soldier sent here by the occult forces from Bucharest, which wanted Universitatea Craiova to be demolished.

Because I did not wanted to approve the moving of Camataru at Dinamo Bucharest, that cheef of Communist Party sent "Securitatea"(Romanian ex political police) at my home. They acused me of financial fraude and of relations with foreigner citizens. Camataru left Craiova but in that time I was president of FC Olt. Mircea Lucescu took Balaci at Dinamo from FC Olt. Mircea Radulescu sent Ilie Balaci there after a very serious knee injury."

"Universitatea Craiova remains the most beautiful moment in my life. I wish it all the best and I hope this team will arrive again where I saw it once."
