Italy - Romania preview

It is a movie from 1966. This film is called "The Dacians" and is about 2000 years ago ancestors of Romanians. They fought against Roman Empire 2 times 101-102 and 105-106 a. C. I will make a translation for you:
Roman soldier: "Open the gates! We will give your lives and your freedom."
Dacian soldier: "Who are you?"
Roman soldier: "The masters of The World."
Dacian soldier: "You will... If you kill us all."

Euro 2008 - day 5

Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal and set up two more to put Portugal on the brink of the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2008 after a 3-1 win over Group A rivals Czech Republic at the Stade de Genève.Deco had given Portugal an eighth-minute lead after good work from Ronaldo before Libor Sionko's thumping header levelled proceedings. However, Ronaldo turned on the style in the second half, providing a sublime finish from the edge of the area in the 63rd minute before supplying Ricardo Quaresma to round things off in added time. The win, which leaves Portugal top of Group A with six points, will almost certainly ensure them a last-eight place but it leaves the Czechs with a nervous finish in their final group game against Turkey on Sunday.
Ardan Turan's deflected goal deep in injury time gave Turkey a win that revived their UEFA EURO 2008 hopes – but ended those of co-hosts Switzerland on St. Jakob-Park in Basel.

Switzerland, like Turkey beaten on the opening day, dealt better with a first-half Basel downpour and Hakan Yakin put them ahead just past the half-hour with a rain-assisted goal. Semih, however, was a prolific scorer from the bench for Fenerbahçe SK this season and 12 minutes after his half-time introduction he repeated the trick for his nation. It seemed a draw would be the outcome but Arda had other ideas and now Turkey can reach the quarter-finals by winning their final Group A game against the Czech Republic on Sunday. Switzerland will finish in fourth place.

Euro 2008 - day 4

A scintillating hat-trick from David Villa gave Spain a clear-cut 4-1 victory over Russia in their first outing at UEFA EURO 2008 and confirmed the immense power of the Valencia CF striker's partnership with Fernando Torres. In a high-quality Group D encounter on Stadion Tivoli Neu, Russia provided moments to indicate that Luis Aragonés's side may still be vulnerable at the back and gained consolation with Roman Pavlyuchenko's 86th-minute header. But Villa's second goal in particular was a stunning team move which may already be one of the goals of the tournament. Only the seventh player in finals history to score three in a game, the 26-year-old's treble was the first in a EURO since Patrick Kluivert's against Yugoslavia eight years ago. Villa then utterly stamped his class on the match, crossing for Xavi Hernández to volley and substitute Cesc Fàbregas to head in the fourth in stoppage time.Sweden's Olof Mellberg was delighted with a "well-deserved win" against Greece at Stadion Salzburg Wals-Siezenheim last night. The imposing defender admitted the 2-0 victory had not been pretty, as Greece frustrated the Swedes until Zlatan Ibrahimović's fantastic goal in the 67th minute. Petter Hansson wrapped up the Group D points with a somewhat less eye-catching, bundled effort five minutes later. "I thought we played really well from start to finish. We defended well and created quite a few chances, so I think it was a well-deserved win in the end," said Mellberg. "Greece also defended well. They tried to keep the ball and it was probably not the best game to watch, especially in the first half, but we did our job against a really strong side."

Amza Pellea

One of the most important actors of Romanian theater lived in Craiova and was the director of National Theater from Craiova.

This is the most important Romanian movie: "Mihai Viteazul". It is a film about one of the most important Romanian heroes called "Michael The Brave". He did it for barley a year while the papist west and the saracen east tried to pull the country apart from all sides and he was assassinated for it.

Movila wanted to get Mihai killed if possible on behalf of Bathory. I really doubt a peaceful resolution could have come through. Mihai's actions were flawless and if he hadn't been assassinated he would have kept the country for many more years.

Euro 2008 - Romania In

In the 3rd day of Euro 2008 Romania debuted against France. 0-0 was the score of this game. A hard work and the result we deserved.Romania made a promising start today, holding one of the tournament favourites, France, to a goalless draw at the Letzigrund Stadion in Zurich in Group C.

The Netherlands ended a 30-year wait for a victory over Italy in emphatic fashion as they began their Group C campaign with a rousing 3-0 victory against the world champions on Stade de Suisse from Berne.Ruud van Nistelrooy side-footed the Oranje ahead in the 26th minute, a lead doubled superbly by his Real Madrid CF colleague Wesley Sneijder soon after. Edwin van der Sar, becoming only the third player to appear in four UEFA European Championships, then kept the advantage intact, leaving Giovanni van Bronckhorst to complete the scoring with a headed third in the 79th minute. The Netherlands can now look forward with confidence to Friday's meeting with France, while Italy must pick themselves up from a worst-ever EURO defeat when they face Romania.

Euro 2008 - day 2

Austria went the same way at Ernst-Happel-Stadion from as fellow hosts Switzerland, opening their UEFA EURO 2008 challenge with a narrow defeat as Luka Modrić's early penalty gave Croatia victory in Vienna.

Modrić, Croatian midfielder, scored the only goal of the first Group B game in the fourth minute, driving in after Ivica Olić had been brought down by René Aufhauser – the fastest penalty in the history of the final tournament. The home side took time to find their feet after that early setback, but mounted a stirring late charge with substitute Roman Kienast heading centimetres past the post seconds before the whistle. In the other game of the day, Germany forward Lukas Podolski admitted to having "mixed feelings" about scoring the goals against Poland which gave Joachim Löw's team a winning start to their UEFA EURO 2008 campaign at the expense of his country of birth. The FC Bayern München player struck in the 20th and 72nd minutes – but celebrated neither – in Klagenfurt at Wörthersee Stadion to propel Germany to the top of Group B and earn himself the Carlsberg Man of the Match award. "Obviously I have mixed feelings," said Podolski. "I was born in Poland and I have a big family there so it's a very important thing for me. We applied what we worked on in training and must push forward from here." Following Croatia's success against Austria in the earlier fixture, the 23-year-old accepted the hard work was just beginning, saying: "As I said, this is the first step and we must continue – we can't relax. We have two days to refresh ourselves and then it's back to training and everything continues from there."

Euro 2008 started today

The first game of the tournament was Switzerland-Czech Republic 0-1. First of it we had a colourful ceremony at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. The display, conceptually designed by artistic director Martin Arnaud and the Auditoire agency, combined the various elements that will make EURO a memorable experience – the heritage of the two host countries, sport and culture, and UEFA's values of fair play, respect and the joy of football. The 13-minute show featured around 1,000 performers of various nationalities, aged between 14 and 70. Among the images prevalent were Alpine horns and yodellers, the green summer pastures and white winter landscapes of both countries, and the splendour of Lake Constance, bordered by both host nations.Svěrkoš took on the role with 19 minutes remaining. Following a period of Czech pressure prompted by Sionko and Plašil, the striker latched on to Zdeněk Grygera's forward header to direct a cool, low finish to Benaglio's left – the 24-year-old's first international goal. A player from FC Baník Ostrava had just ruined Switzerland's big day.
Portugal won against Turkey by 2 second-half strikes from Pepe and substitute Raul Meireles who secured all three points for Cristiano Ronaldo's team at the Stade de Genève.

It was a deserved victory for Luiz Felipe Scolari's men who also rattled the woodwork twice through Nuno Gomes. For Turkey, by contrast, defeat here continues their unhappy sequence of results against not just Portugal but also teams coached by Scolari – his Brazil beat them twice at the 2002 FIFA World Cup – and makes Wednesday's Group A meeting with Switzerland a virtual eliminator.

Tudor Gheorghe

One of the most beloved artists from Craiova is Tudor Gheorghe. He is an actor of National Theater from Craiova. He played in numerously dramas, and he is also a very popular singer.

Tudor Gheorghe composed one of the Universitatea Craiova's anthems. That is beacause our team has 2 anthems.

He made numerously shows all over the world. But there is no place on the Earth where he is beloved like in Craiova.

Michael Baird

The fans of Universitatea Craiova made a description for Michael Baird:
"He had adjusting problems when he came here, hence he overcame them he proved he knows to play football. He is very useful for our team. Michael opens spaces for the players from the second line, he is very quick, runs a lot, he makes a good pressing to our opponents. Baird has a good head strike and he feels the goal."
Yet his flaws are: "he is very nervous, sometimes is restles too much and gets too much yellow and red cards. Technically speaking he is not so good, he needs to improve his tactics."
As a conclusion: "Baird is a genuine British striker who makes the law in front of the goal. When he was injured he missed us so much. That is because he works a lot and helps the other strikers of Universitatea Craiova's football team."

Can Josh be lured home?

What is a young guy who played his early football at Berserker doing in Romania? As Josh Rose would tell you, he's forging a decent career in the hard world of professional football. It has been a long journey for Rose from local Capricornia football, through to a three-year stint with the Brisbane Strikers and then a spell with the New Zealand Knights before signing for Universitatea Craiova in 2006. However, don't place a bet on the 26 year-old ending his playing days in the heart of Europe. "I've got one year left on my contract," he said. The club, which is situated about three hours west of Bucharest and plays in the top division of Romanian football, is pleased with Rose and the three other Australians in the present team. "When I arrived we had just been relegated," Rose said. The club bounced back into the country's top flight but is finding it hard establishing itself there, finishing ninth in both of its two campaigns. When he returns for pre-season training in June the club want to talk to him about an extension to his contract. However, Rose admits while remuneration is good the lifestyle in Australia beckons him, his partner Jeni and their baby Jai. "I've talked to a few clubs while I've been here," he admitted. Those discussions were informal but Rose is tempted by the A-League and the opportunities it presents. "One of the reasons (for returning) is the national coach being here and picking A-League players," he said. Considered talented in Australia, Rose said his game has improved since playing in Europe. Locally supporters talk about the woes of the Cougars in the goalscoring department and recall the striking capabilities of Rose. However in recent times his natural attacking skills have been reshaped and he now turns out in a left defensive position. "It's worked in my favour," he said. "Clubs these days look for players who are more versatile." His linguistic ability has also been tested but he has learned enough to know what Romanians are saying and get his own message across. Rose isn't even having problems with the language on the training pitch. "The coach is Italian and knows little of the language," he said. "His assistant is Romanian but can speak some English." On the park Rose said he and the other Australians talk in Romanian even though their team mates speak a little English. The language is not the only difference to football in Australia. "We play a lot more games," he said recognising this is an area of concern for national coaches picking A-League players. While A-League crowds are excellent the Romanian supporters are passionate about "the beautiful game". "Football is their life over there," he said. "Lose a game and they can go crazy." Not something needed when Universitatea Craiova pulls crowds of 30-35,000 against top Bucharest sides. So what did Rose think of the Cougars match with NQ Razorbacks at the weekend. "I wish it (QSL) had been around when I was playing here, it's lot quicker than when I played for Berserker, the standard is not too bad. "For 16-17 year-olds it is something to look to." Rose said the two wide players, Michael Cay and Johnathon Sauer impressed him. "The young boys in the team can only get better and better," he added. The Cougars, of course, has a blend of players in its squad and Rose remembered a few of them from his time here. "I played with Bobsie (Roy Bob) and Smithy (assistant coach Brad Smith)," he recalled. "Spotty (Clayton Rowland) was always tough to play against and Coxie (Danny Cox) was a very good striker." Rose and his family left Rockhampton yesterday for Brisbane and return to Romania in a couple of weeks.

9th place this year

Universitatea Craiova finished the year 2007-2008 in the 9th place of the Championship table. Let's hope we will have a better season next year.
LIGA 1 2007-2008 Table

1 CFR Cluj 76
2 Steaua Bucuresti 75
3 Rapid Bucuresti 61
4 Dinamo Bucuresti 61
5 Unirea Urziceni 61
6 Poli Timisoara 57
7 FC Vaslui 47
8 Otelul Galati 46
9 "U" CRAIOVA 43
10 Gloria Bistrita 42
11 Poli Iasi 41
12 Pandurii Tg. Jiu 40
13 Farul Constanta 40
14 Gloria Buzau 37
15 Ceahlaul P. Neamt 36
16 Dacia Mioveni 31
17 UT Arad 26
18 U Cluj 23
Let's see the best moments of the last year for our team. I can assure you this film has something magic.

Universitatea Craiova - Ceahlaul Piatra-Neamt 3-2

A match without history. Ceahlaul lost the presence in the first league. They will play in the second division next year.

For our team scored Mihai Dina twice, and an own goal of Pecica from Ceahlaul Piatra-Neamt.

Gloria Buzau - Universitatea Craiova 1-0

No history. 3 lost points.

Universitatea Craiova - Steaua Bucharest 1-2

Steaua Bucharest scored first from an unsignalised offside position. Craiova came back by Prepelita's goal. In the end of the game Steaua scored again. Nice match, bad referee, bad result.
The team: Bornescu, Rose, Mitchell, Gaman, Dananae, Wobay, Gangioveanu, Dilevski, Prepelita, F. Costea, Dina

Dinamo Bucharest - Universitatea Craiova 4-4

A crazy game. It was called so because of the strange score evolution. It was first 0-3, in ten minutes Dinamo took the lead with 4-3. In the last minute of the game Craiova scored for 4-4. Our goals were made by Florin Costea (2), Mihai Dina and Constantin Gangioveanu.

Politehnica Timisoara - Universitatea Craiova 1-3

Maybe one of the most beautiful games in this year. Once again the opponent team took the lead of the game. It was 1-0 for Timisoara very quick. But the kids of Universitatea Craiova scored three times . Florin Costea 2 goals and Mihai Dina one. We have put 3 more points in the table and we were expecting for more against Steaua and Dinamo Bucharest.

Universitatea Craiova - Otelul Galati 1-1

Without the most important players in the field, Universitatea Craiova met Otelul Galati. The guest team scored first, but the youngest players of Craiova came back and scored for 1-1. Our goal was signed by Mihai Dina. We need to remember that this match was the first game for Silviu Lung jr in first Romanian football division.

Universitatea Cluj - Universitatea Craiova 2-0

A match without history. The team from Cluj finished the competition on the last position. they will play in the second football division next year. I can not explain what they did to win against Universitatea Craiova.

Universitatea Craiova - Gloria Bistrita 1-1

Another game in which the opponent team scored first. Universitatea Craiova found again the resources to come back and the final score was 1-1. Our team goal was scored by Mihai Dina.

Dacia Mioveni - Universitatea Craiova 1-2

The trainer of Dacia Mioveni was Sorin Cartu. He was a former player of Universitatea Craiova in the '80s. He is the trainer who won the last Championship title for Universitatea Craiova in 1991. This time we were enemies. Our goals were scored by Ionut Lutu and Mihai Dina.

Universitatea Craiova - FC Vaslui 2-1

Another beautiful game made by our team. FC Vaslui scored first. But Universitatea Craiova scored twice by Florin Costea and all the three points of the game were gathered by our team. You can see bellow the first goal scored by Florin Costea.
That result made us being very happy. Go Craiova!

UT Arad - Universitatea Craiova 0-1

Another goal scored by Florin Costea after an assist of Michael Baird. Universitatea Craiova gathered another 3 points in the table.

Universitatea Craiova - Rapid Bucharest 1-1

It was a beautiful game. The players from Craiova did a good fight with their opponents but the score finished wrong. Why? Because the referee canceled a regular goal scored by Michael Baird. Rapid scored first, but Universitatea get the draw thank to Florin Costea who scored for 1-1.

Monday, May 19, 2008

Mircea Bornescu

One of the most beloved football players in Craiova is Mircea Bornescu. The goalkeeper of Universitatea Craiova has a strong relation with the fans of the team.

That is a very impresive video. Mircea Bornescu is the man in yellow T-shirt.

Unirea Urziceni - Universitatea Craiova 2-2

It was a very nice game this one. Unirea Urziceni had 2-0 after 45 minutes of maximum intensity play. Universitatea Craiova lead this game from the firts minute until the last. The goals of the opponents were scored thanks to individual mistakes made by our team. After the break, Craiova's players entered more determined in the field and the final score was a draw who let both teams to hope for a better future. Our goals were scored by Michael Baird and Julius Wobay.

Universitatea Craiova - Pandurii Targu Jiu 1-0

It was not a nice game. In the field were two teams which did much effort for nothing. The play suffered because of this. In the end Universitatea Craiova won thanks to the goal scored by F. Costea. Another 3 points in the table for our team.

Sunday, May 18, 2008

CFR Cluj - Universitatea Craiova 4-1

Despite the bad result obtained in this game, Universitatea made a good game and played with courage and determination. It was just another game when the referee did the difference between the teams in the field. Anyhow, Craiova scored for 1-1 by Florin Costea and was quite equal as footbal quality with the team which won the football championship in Romania.

Winter Friendly games

Stiinta played some friendly games to prepare the spring season of the championship. The chosen location was Antalya in Turkey. The results were:
Sturm Graz - Universitatea Craiova 2-1
Our goal was scored by F. Costea.
The starting team was: Bornescu, Dananae, Stoica, Mitchell, Rose, Dilevski, V. Gaman, Prepelita, Wobay, F. Costea, Tanasa

Universitatea Craiova - Politehnica Iasi 2-1

Craiova did a good game. Our goals were scored after the break by Josh Mitchell and Joshua Rose. Universitatea scored once again by Dananae but the referee canceled the goal without reason. Anyhow 3 more points in the table for our beloved team.

Farul Constanta - Universitatea Craiova 3-1

Universitatea Craiova opened the game with a goal scored by Florin Costea. It was a beautiful masterpiece. But it was not enough to win the game. After the break Constanta scored three times and the game finished wrong for us.

Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt - Universitatea Craiova 1-0

It was a good game but the result of it does not make us being happy. It was a sad night and the refere had a bad day. Let's hope we will not see such kind of football games anymore.
